SAIT Green Building Technologies Lab: Tour & Networking

Monday, Sep 9, 2019

Sustainability is fast becoming the new normal in commercial real estate.

Kick off the autumn season by joining us for the CREW tour of the SAIT Green Building Technologies (GBT) Lab and Demonstration Center. Join us as we tour and learn about the latest in real estate sustainability in the first net-zero commercial building in Calgary.

GBT works towards healthier and greener building practices. Since 2008, the GBT has created dozens of projects ranging from green building construction to the development and testing of new building materials to data collection of wind, solar, and water systems. In 2017, the lab began operating out of its new office, designed in the style of a 2-story home on the SAIT campus. Alongside a shared office space, it houses labs focused on solar energy, storm water collection and treatment, efficient building envelope and energy systems, green roofs, and more. Through our tours and events, they strive to spread and encourage green building knowledge and practices.

Once viewed as “nice to haves”, sustainable building design and operation strategies are increasingly becoming a key component to attracting and retaining tenants.  Erica Baranik, Sustainability Consultant with Stantec Consulting Ltd., will share her experiences with one of the newest iconic additions to Edmonton’s skyline – The Stantec Tower.

The Stantec Tower is a 66-storeys high mixed-use building which is currently the tallest building in Western Canada. The first 30 floors contain commercial retail units, restaurants, and office space, while the SKY Residences located over top contain residential condo units. Erica will describe the various sustainable building best practices that were incorporated into this “vertical neighbourhood”, including some strategies in support of the multiple green building certifications that are being targeted, including LEED Core and Shell, LEED Interior Design + Construction (for at least two (2) office tenants), and Fitwel.

Registration closes September 5th at midnight, so don't delay!

CREW also has NEW Student Pricing, allowing a limited number of students to register for only $20 - follow the registration button to register as a student.

We look forward to seeing you there!
