President's Message

Spring is finally here - the weather is beautiful and it’s time to celebrate our accomplishments.

I’m proud to announce that CREW Calgary has grown over 15% from this time last year and our membership is becoming more and more diverse. Our events have been exceptional! Last month’s lunch and learn had one of the highest number of attendees in our history. The Sponsorship Committee has worked hard to raise funds and the Marketing Committee has recently given our enewsletter a fresh new look.

Going forward we have some great events coming up! The member’s only speed networking event on May 14 is going to be fun and a great opportunity to get to know each other better. The golf tournament is fast approaching so make sure that you sign up right away and get into the early bird draw (a 1 night stay for 2 at Hotel Arts, including breakfast!!).

At the board level, we will be preparing a formal strategic plan for the next few years. The goal is to have it complete by fall. The Board recently met with the new Dean of the Haskayne School of Business to discuss becoming more involved with students that want to specialize in commercial real estate.

Eve Renaud and I will be traveling to Scottsdale, Arizona in June. As you know, CREW Calgary is part of CREW Network, with Chapters in most major cities in the US and Canada. It is an excellent resource for all of our members and I encourage you to spend some time on their website to research the tools that are available. As part of that network we are asked to attend meetings three times per year. These meetings are a great networking and professional development opportunity. For the first time this year representatives from the Canadian Chapters will be meeting independently from the other Chapters. We have found that there are opportunities and challenges that we as Canadians face and this will be a great opportunity to come together as Canadians in commercial real estate.

Lastly, we are excited to announce our CREW raffle again this year. We are offering two of our members a wonderful opportunity to attend the CREW Convention in Dallas from October 9 to 12. The prize includes two night’s hotel accommodation and the first-time registration fee for the convention. Ticket price is $40.00 each and can be purchased from any Board member.
