Communicate with Impact: Top Tips You Can Try Today

Tuesday, Feb 6, 2024

Join us for a lunch and learn to level up your communication skill with Pam Brandt.

Most of us believe people are born being good communicators. Nothing could be further from the truth. Communication, like learning to run or sail or bike, is a skill everyone can develop. Yet it is one we often overlook in favour of developing our domain expertise. Rambling, out-of-power language, nerves—these are things that can diminish our impact and ability to influence, often without us even knowing. To excel and advance, our communication skills need to be as good or better than our technical skills. Whether it’s speaking up in meetings, handling impromptu questions and answers or sending an email, we need to sound as capable as we are. In this session, we’ll look at some of the most common communication challenges that can undermine our impact. Pam's goal is for people to believe that communication skills can be developed and to have practical tips to express themselves with greater clarity and confidence.

Pam is a leadership and communication coach who helps people become the personal and professional leaders they aspire to be. She delights in working with individual contributors and new, emerging and evolving leaders to increase their impact. Pam believes everyone can become a clearer, more concise and confident communicator. Prior to coaching, Pam worked in the corporate sector as a senior communications leader and later as a change management consultant on large-scale transformations in a number of industries. She has taught as part of Mount Royal University’s public relations program and freelanced for several publications. Pam holds a master’s degree in organizational development and leadership, a graduate degree is journalism, and the designation of Professional Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation. When she’s not coaching, Pam is probably packing or unpacking her backpack en route to her next adventure. There is also a strong chance you’ll find her in her sunny kitchen, perfecting everything from sourdough bread and Icelandic yogurt to dill pickles and macarons.
