Tara Steell, Alanna Remington Rice, Elvie Reinson, Carla Barney, and Elke Goebel had the opportunity to attend the CREW Leadership Summit held in Detroit this June.

This was the second session of the inaugural year of the Leadership Certificate program and this session focused on Negotiations. Harvard professor, consultant, and author Guhan Subramanian led the full day course attended by Tara Steell, Elvie Reinson, and Alanna Remington Rice.
Canadian Chapters Delegate Meeting
Tara and Alanna met with CREW Vancouver, CREW Montreal, CREW Toronto, and CREW Edmonton where distinctly Canadian issues were discussed. Sponsorship strategies, tax return protocols, a Canadian Reception in New York, and the upcoming 2017 Summit Toronto were discussion points at this meeting.
CREW Network 2016 Council and Business Meeting
At the Council Meetings CREW Chapters are seated by size, and CREW Calgary was officially bumped up to the medium chapter table, a very exciting step for our chapter! At the Business Meeting Chapters share their successes and challenges which is valuable information for Chapter governance. This year the CREW Network Board opened up a Q & A session where any chapter could ask questions about governance or best practices. The Board also announce the retirement of CREW Network Chief Executive Officer and CREW Network Foundation President Gail S. Ayers, Ph.D. Gail has given 11 years of service to CREW Network and more than 25 years as an organizational leader and will serve through to the end of the year when a new CEO is expected to be hired. During the lunch hour Dr. Isaiah McKinnon, Deputy Mayor of Detroit, spoke about the Resilience of Detroit, giving context and an economic update about our host City. The afternoon session featured speaker Beth Bratkovic and her interactive training session Conversational Capacity: Building Your Capacity to Perform Well When the Pressure Is On. Download a copy of her presentation handout here. These strategies apply to professional and personal conversational abilities, resting on the old adage: communication is key!
Elke and Carla had the opportunity to explore some of Detroit and some of its emerging developments. A sample of some of Elke’s tour pictures are below, be sure to ask Elke and Carla about their impressions at our next CREW event!
