CREW Annual Volunteer Night a Great Success

Sunday, Jan 31, 2016

On Thursday, January 21, a great group of CREW Calgary members put their hands and hearts together to participate in the Annual CREW Calgary Volunteer Night at the Walk-in Closet and My Best Friend’s Closet. Beginning with drinks and refreshments, the CREW Calgary team took the opportunity to get to know other CREW Calgary members as well as the hard-working folks behind the Walk-in Closet and My Best Friend’s Closet. Attendees learned about the organizations and the services they offer and enjoyed a tour of the facilities. Both stores provide clothing and accessories to referred women and teens experiencing financial barriers: an incredible mandate!

The CREW Calgary team then split into two groups. One group went to the Walk-in Closet (for adults) and the other to My Best Friend’s Closet (for teens). We got to know each other, laughed and felt light-hearted as we volunteered our time to steam and sort clothes, organize new inventory and assist with odd jobs around the stores. It felt good to know that the our efforts would result in a smiling woman or teen feeling prepared for a fresh chapter of their lives with clean clothes on their back, knowing they are valued and supported.

As a reminder, CREW members are encouraged to donate gently used items through the year for the Walk-in Closet and My Best Friend’s Closet as they are always appreciated.

It was an amazing opportunity to network on a down-to-earth basis, giving back to two organizations in our community that offer services to Calgarians in need. Well done, ladies!
