Lara Murphy Lunch & Learn a Great Success!

Wednesday, Apr 6, 2016

CREW Calgary’s lunch and learn, “Successful Female Entrepreneurs: Lara Murphy”, was an incredibly well attended event! Over 80 CREW Calgary members and guests attended the noon-hour event at Fort Calgary, enjoying lunch, networking, a draw for prizes and a riveting presentation.

Our speaker, Lara Murphy, co-founder of Ryan Murphy Construction Inc., spoke eloquently and genuinely about her upbringing, finding her place in the working world, pursuing her passion and loving her life along the way. She spoke about standing out from the crowd in the real estate industry and especially about establishing her business – an (almost) entirely female run construction company – in a field generally populated by men. Lara explained that she and her business partner, Karen Ryan, built the company together and now have a strong presence in the commercial, residential and accessible housing markets in Calgary. She shared success stories and examples of their work throughout Calgary, reflecting on her struggles, successes and lessons learned as an entrepreneur.

The key takeaway for CREW Calgary members was to “do what you love” with passion and to give back to the community. Lara explained with humour and candidness that following her passion led her to the spot she’s in today: running a company that recently made the 2015 PROFIT 500 list as one of the fastest growing companies in Canada! Lara was excited to present to a room filled with real estate lovers, and we were thrilled to have her. We wish Ryan Murphy Construction Inc. the best of luck and thank Lara for her time and enthusiasm.

Special thanks to CREW member Jyoti Gondek, Director of the Westman Centre for Real Estate Studies, for encouraging students from the Real Estate Students Association (RESA) to attend.

In addition to the successful presentation and informal networking during lunch, CREW Calgary received an entire box filled with donations for Making Changes and My Best Friend’s Closet. Thanks to those who donated and please remember to bring any additional gently used items to our next lunch and learn event, Leveraging Your Strengths with Mary Moran!
