Board Member Profile: Carla Barney, Director

I am very pleased to have my name stand for a Director role for 2018. Since becoming a member in 2012, then Chairing the sponsorship committee since 2013, I have come to appreciate the CREW Calgary group and all of the benefits that comes along with being a member. My involvement with CREW has been exceptionally rewarding in many ways. It allows me to network with likeminded women who excel in the industry and who help others excel as well. It has given me connections to do my job better, and it has aided in both my professional and personal development. I continue to be inspired, when in the presence of these women who have interesting careers, hobbies and personalities.
I graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a Bachelors of Education. I came to Calgary in 2008, a time where the teaching profession had its challenges. I took an administrative role in a small third-party property management company. There, I came to love the real estate industry and the many facets that come with it. I worked my way up the ladder, and today I am Property Manager at Manulife Real Estate. I take care of the financial, operational and construction of a portfolio of about 1 million square feet of office space. I am truly passionate about what I do, and my career goals have be aspiring to be "at the top". I am currently completing a Certificate of Project Management at U of C and I participate in charities such as the Breast Cancer Foundation and Ronald McDonald House. I am excited for 2018 and to return as a director on the board this year, and to elevate my contributions to CREW Calgary. In turn, I am confident that the experience will be valuable and rewarding.
