Larissa Svekla

2020 – The year that will go down in history as a rollercoaster year that changed both our personal and professional lives. The year that tested our limits.

2020 was not what any of us anticipated, but it was a year CREW Calgary members came together and supported one another in great stride.  We pressed on despite the many challenges faced throughout the year to continue to pursue our mission to advance the Commercial Real Estate industry by elevating women as leaders, and what a year it was!  It was a year filled with tremendous achievements for our chapter.  We rolled out our inaugural mentorship program, reworked our event offerings and traditional golf tournament, reconfigured our member and sponsor benefit propositions, and reinvented our inaugural awards celebration honouring our first lifetime achievement tribute recipient, Gillian Lawrence.  Our chapter also celebrated achieving CREW Network Foundation trifecta, one of only a small group of CREW Network Chapters to do so.  Each of these accomplishments would not have been possible without our dedicated and hard-working committee volunteers.  I would like to thank all committee volunteers and our Board members for rallying together to make 2020 a success. And a special thanks to our Past President, Michelle Pink, for her outstanding leadership throughout her presidency.

As we turn over the calendar to 2021, this year has been fittingly themed as “RE”: the year to RE-charge, RE-group, RE-engage, RE-invent, RE-ignite and RE-connect.  We know the challenges facing the world will not dissipate in the upcoming weeks or even months, so CREW Calgary is here to continue to support you.  We have expanded our mentorship program, planned an amazing line up of virtual events and embraced the opportunity to partner virtually with other CREW Network Chapters so our members can more easily network and connect with professionals in other jurisdictions.  We are hopeful for the possibility of reconnecting in person later this year and, fingers crossed, holding our inaugural awards gala celebration.  Stay tuned.

I am personally so grateful for the CREW Calgary network of amazing individuals who helped each other through the past year, and I look forward to what we can achieve together in 2021.  So here is to a new year to recharge, regroup, reengage, reinvent, reignite and reconnect! I look forward to seeing you – whether virtually or in person – throughout 2021.

Happy New Year CREW Calgary.

Sincerely,

Larissa Svekla

2021 President CREW Calgary
