Tuesday, May 18, 2021
Chantal Wing, MBA, P.Eng., currently holds the Engineering Project Management Team Lead position for Stantec's Calgary Community Development group. She has over a decade of land development experience providing civil engineering project management including due diligence for potential land acquisitions, outline plan and land use support, financial management, engineering design, municipal approvals, shallow utilities coordination, stormwater engineering, and construction management. Chantal’s current project portfolio includes Glacier Ridge by Ronmor Holdings/Anthem United in the north of Calgary, as well as Pine Creek by Apex Land/Quadra Developments in the south of Calgary.
An interest in leadership inspired Chantal to gain an MBA specializing in Real Estate Studies at the University of Calgary. The program complemented Chantal’s experience in expanding her knowledge of accounting, finance, human resources, and real estate investment.
Chantal has been an active member of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Calgary since 2014 and is on the Board of Directors for 2021 as the liaison with the Membership Committee.
1. What do you enjoy most about working in the Commercial Real Estate Industry?
It is challenging, ever-changing, and always exciting.
2. How has CREW brought value to your career?
Where do I start!? Tara Steell introduced me to CREW and immediately got me involved in the Events committee which quickly evolved to my role as the Events Co-Chair. These team management skills have a lot of carry over to my day-to-day work. I won the CREW Network Scholarship while I was taking my MBA in 2018. The financial support was obviously amazing, but I also got to go to the CREW Convention where I soaked up a TON of knowledge. In addition, I started a new role at Stantec in April. When I was considering the switch, I immediately called 5+ of my close CREW contacts to help me with this decision. The value of this network is amazing.
3. What are three reasons you would encourage a colleague to join CREW?
CREW provides an opportunity to network with welcoming, like-minded individuals who are empowering each other to achieve their goals.
All CREW Members, not just in Calgary, are approachable and are willing to provide guidance.
CREW provides access to a variety of networking events and conferences to attend to develop personal and professional skills.
4. How are you positively adapting to the work-from-home and work/life challenges presented by COVID-19 measures?
I started my new job on April 13 right after COVID started, so the reality is it is the only thing I know in my current role. I have only got a glimpse of my office twice since I started. Starting a new job under a remote situation is extremely challenging, but with 2 young children at home (almost 2 and 4), I am really enjoying the opportunity to see them more. I love my 10-step commute!
5. Share an interesting or little-known fact about yourself?
I LOVE fishing. I am from Manitoba and I have been eating an excessive number of Pickerel my entire life. We just bought a double angling kayak and I can’t wait to accessorize it with all the fishing gadgets. That being said, I do not fish in Alberta. I have never been that successful. Also, I cannot understand “catch and release” which is a lot of the good fishing around here.
