CREW Calgary Event Recap: Q2 2024

The second quarter of 2024 has come to a close and there have been some great opportunities for the CREW Calgary network to participate in!

April:

AMA Series – Taxing Questions: Property Tax and Recoveries 101

As part of the Ask Me Anything Series, CREW Calgary members had the chance to learn more about the complex world of property tax and assessment valuation.  Robyn Ferguson, Eastern Canada Leader, Property Tax Services at MNP shared insights on how property taxes are determined, recoveries, impacts and more.

May:

Building Tour – 909 & 919 11th Avenue SW (Formerly the ATCO Building)

Joined by our partners at IFMA, CREW Calgary members enjoyed an opportunity to network at The 9 Tenant Lounge for a showcase of the renovations at 909 & 911 11th Avenue SW (formerly known as the ATCO Building).

Christie Simpson, Vice-President of ATCO Land and Development, along with Shauna Sylwesiuk, shared with us the history of ATCO as it relates to real estate and about the journey taken to land on the renovations to the two towers which were built back in the 1980s.

We also heard from the Shearer Design team, Andy Worden and Kristen Lee, along with Stephanie Yeung with GGA as they walked through the various design features and challenges from the interior hub with the conference space and lounge to the exterior façade and main lobby they faced in order to modernize this building's design while maintaining the timeless heritage.

AMA Series  The Value of Professional Involvement: When to Hire a Licensed Interior Designer

CREW Calgary members attended an information session with COPPER 8’s, Natasha Jalbert, the first and only Licensed Interior Design President of the Alberta Association of Architects together with her partner, Bobbi Burke. The information session shared insight on the difference between an architect, a licensed interior designer, and an interior designer, and when you need which, along with key information on the building permit process and when to engage a licensed interior designer.

June:

Elevate Your Negotiation Game & Negotiate with Impact

These two sessions were put on by Donna Price, a Mount Royal University instructor for the Contract Management Extension Certificate and Business Law for Contract Management Extension Certificate programs, about how to elevate your negotiation game and negotiate with impact.

These two sessions covered information on best practices for assessing the negotiation landscape and effectively approaching different types of negotiations, recognizing why negotiations become imbalanced, understanding when (and how) to ask questions and share information, diffuse gambits, and use silence effectively.
