Tour Of The EEEL Building

On September 17th, 2014, CREW Calgary hosted a tour of the University of Calgary’s EEEL Building (Energy Environmental Experiential Learning). EEEL is the administrative centre for the Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economy, as well as six academic disciplines; three in Science and three in Engineering. EEEL has also received a LEED Platinum certification, confirming that it is one of the most energy efficient laboratory buildings in North America.

Our feature speakers were Jim Dewald and Keesa Hutchinson. Jim Dewald, from the Haskayne School of Business, spoke on the future of real estate in Calgary and the University of Calgary’s real estate program. Keesa Hutchinson, from the University of Calgary’s Campus planning, then spoke about the EEEL building itself, its details and its features. She also spoke on the facility’s extensive sustainability components.

The event, which was hosted from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, was followed by a tour of four of the EEEL floors, showcasing public spaces, labs, student spaces and classrooms. About 30 CREW Calgary members and guests enjoyed the tour and learned a great deal about this state-of-the-art building.

The CREW Calgary Events Committee would like to take this opportunity to again thank both Keesa Hutchinson and Jim Dewald for their time and participation in this event.
