Upcoming Assessment Appeal Deadlines for All Realty and Business Owners in Alberta

CREW Member Jill McKenna of AEC Property Tax would like to remind all of our members that a new year brings with it a new tax season. She has provided us with the following information and deadlines.

2017 assessment notices were mailed to Alberta’s three largest municipalities in January and the 60 day Customer Review Period is quickly coming to a close. All property and business owners and/or managers are encouraged to review their assessments to ensure they are paying only their fair share of the tax burden.

While appeal deadlines vary by municipality, dates can be found on individual assessment notices or by calling the municipality directly. The assessment complaint filing deadlines for Alberta’s largest cities are listed below for handy reference:

Calgary:  March 6, 2017

Edmonton:  March 13, 2017

Red Deer:  March 21, 2017

Tax bills will follow in May and June, once municipalities set their annual tax rates. And reminder that you cannot challenge a tax bill, so take advantage of this 60-day window to ensure equity.
